'its time to talk'

Counselling is a form of talking therapy that allows people to discuss their problems, worries and any difficult feelings or worrying thoughts they are experiencing in a safe, non-judgemental environment. Counselling (also known as therapy) can mean different things to different people, but generally at Tower Counselling, it is something people seek when they want to change or overcome a certain aspect of their life, need support, or because they want to explore and understand their thoughts and feelings more closely.

What can counselling and psychotherapy help with?

At Tower Counselling, counselling & psychotherapy can help you cope with:

  • giving you a safe place to talk to trained professional without fear of judgement
  • a mental health condition, such as depression or anxiety
  • an upsetting physical health condition, such as infertility
  • a difficult life event, such as a bereavement, a relationship breakdown or work-related stress
  • difficult emotions – for example, low self-esteem or anger management problem
  • other issues, such as chemical addiction or gambling addictions.
  • difficult feelings/emotions and understand yourself.
  • and resolve complicated issues, or find ways to manage them.
  • and recognise unhelpful patterns and/or behaviours, and find ways to change them (if you want to).

There are many benefits to counselling and therapy. Historically it was seen as a final option for those who have reached crisis point, however, now it is recognised as a preventative measure, a form of self-care in managing difficult thoughts and feelings before they get worse.

Sometimes the term "counselling" is used to refer to talking therapies in general, but counselling is also a type of therapy in its own right.

What to expect from counselling and psychotherapy at Tower Counselling

At your appointment, you'll be encouraged to talk about your feelings and emotions with a trained and qualified therapist, who'll listen and support you without judging or criticising.

Our therapists can help you gain a better understanding of your feelings and thought processes, and find your own solutions to the problems affecting you and your life.

Counselling can take place:

  • as individual face to face counselling
  • in a group via group therapy
  • over the phone, known as telephone counselling
  • online through live chat services. Also Known as internet or e-counselling

Initially you will be offered a triage session which will help your therapist assess your problems so they can recommend your best course of therapy. This may be a short course of sessions over a few weeks or months, or a longer course for therapy, or even one of our therapy programmes.

It can take a number of sessions before you start to see progress, but you should gradually start to feel better with the help and support of your therapist.
